At The Lab, we’re excited to share a significant update on the Right to Repair (R2R) movement that is directly impacting the way we can repair your devices.

Thanks to continued efforts from R2R and other advocacy groups, manufacturers, particularly Apple, are beginning to release parts and manuals for devices, making it easier to repair and service your devices without restrictions.

This shift has resulted in positive changes for our customers, especially when it comes to iPhone screen repairs.

We’re pleased to announce that we now offer two options for screen replacements for the iPhone 14 series and later.

Genuine Apple Screens

These are the official parts directly from Apple. They’re designed to work perfectly with your device’s motherboard and offer the highest quality.

However, these parts do come at a higher price point, reflecting the authenticity and seamless integration.

OEM Spec Third-Party Screens

For those looking for a more affordable option, we now have high-quality third-party screens that meet OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications.

These screens function similarly to the genuine Apple screens, ensuring reliable performance, but they come at a significantly lower price.

It’s important to note that this availability of genuine and OEM screens currently applies to the iPhone 14 series and later.

Unfortunately, screens for earlier models are not yet available for repair without serial number locks, though we’re hopeful that as R2R and other groups continue their efforts, this will change in the future.

This change marks a big win for the Right to Repair movement and provides more options for consumers.

At The Lab, we’re proud to be able to offer you these choices, making repairs more accessible and affordable without compromising on quality.

If you have an iPhone 14 series or later that needs a screen replacement, stop by The Lab and let us help you decide which option works best for you!

What Is Right To Repair?

The Right to Repair (R2R) movement is a growing effort to push for laws and regulations that require manufacturers to make parts, tools, and information available to consumers and independent repair shops.

Traditionally, many device manufacturers, including Apple, have limited access to essential parts and repair manuals, often requiring repairs to be done exclusively by their authorized service providers.

This not only drives up the cost of repairs but also restricts consumers’ ability to fix their own devices.

R2R advocates for the right to repair your own devices without being forced into using expensive and limited service options.

The movement aims to make parts, schematics, and manuals accessible, ensuring that devices can be repaired and maintained for longer, reducing e-waste and saving consumers money.

In recent years, the movement has made significant progress, especially in the case of mobile phone manufacturers. Apple, once notorious for limiting access to spare parts, has started to release more components and repair information.

This shift has led to increased availability of repair options, like the genuine Apple screens we now offer, as well as OEM spec third-party parts.

By supporting the Right to Repair, we’re not just repairing phones—we’re empowering consumers to take control of their devices, reduce waste, and make repairs more affordable.

It’s an exciting time for independent repair shops like The Lab, and we’re proud to be part of the movement, offering more options and better transparency to our customers.
